6th Grade: Finish your independent reading projects by Monday, January 4.
For this project, you are to read a book on any aspect of or any person in ancient history up until 1000 BC. Please no Greeks or Romans if you can avoid it. We will study them in Term III. We will work on the written part of the project after you return to school.


8th Grade: Choose 2 or 3 possible Renaissance era explorers that you would like to research for your Term II paper. Bring your list to school on Monday, January 4 & we will make the final selections.

8th Grade: Write several diary entries pretending that you are American explorer John L. Stephens, a New York lawyer who "discovered" the ancient Mayan city of Copan in (British) Honduras in 1839 along with his illustrator, Frederick Catherwood. The assignment is to be a minimum of 1 page. There is no 1st draft, only this draft. Describe what you are seeing, your journey, etc.. Remember that no one really knew much about the Maya at that time. It was all speculation, supposition, & guess-work.
